Using tools and technologies to better plan for net zero
urban precincts and corridors
In this research interventions take place across four key pathways. Urban design is one of those pathways.
The primary activity of the urban design pathway is the development and application of the ‘Envision Tomorrow Australia’ scenario planning tool based on Envision Tomorrow which was developed for use in the United States.
Envision Tomorrow Australia (or ET-Oz for short) will be an open-source tool for any Australian precinct seeking to assess different scenarios of development including energy use and source, emissions and fiscal/financial implications. The ET-Oz model is also aiming to include new elements of net zero including green infrastructure, public transport and place qualities.
It is intended that ET Oz will support open and collaborative planning and modelling to inform the development of net zero precincts, specifically for an Australian context.
